Angel
An angel carrying a child in their arms symbolizes a guardian embracing the dead and escorting the soul to heaven. In this case it is likely the child’s mother (Sarah) who is carrying the child as they ascend into heaven together. Childbirth was dangerous and often both the woman and child died in the process, leaving the family grief-stricken.
