7. Acanthus Leaves

Acanthus Leaves
The thorny leaves of the acanthus symbolize the “prickly” journey from life to death and ultimately the final triumph of eternal life. 

 

The acanthus seems very fitting for Mr. McKean’s wife and son.  Notice that she chose to be buried with her son, and not to be buried with her husband, who is in a completely different plot.
