Founded in 1870, The Nashua Historical Society is a volunteer run, independent, non-profit organization and receives no operating support from the state of New Hampshire or the City of Nashua. The Historical Society's motto is to"Preserve the Past for the Future" and in support of its mission, the Historical Society collects, preserves and interprets materials pertaining to Nashua history. The Historical Society owns and administers two unique museums: the Abbot-Spalding House Museum and the Florence H.Speare Memorial Museum, also a Nashua Research Library is available.

All monetary donations and appraised accepted items to the collection are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

As a Partner-At-Large with the Nashua public schools , the Historical Society is committed to enhancing the awareness of the Historical Society and the resources it has available to all.

In Partnership with the Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council the Historical Society offers a program that supports Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scout Badges and Projects. Boy Scout project opportunities exist through the Education Committee.
